Geophysics is a science that deals with how physical properties of the Earth change in time. The aim of geophysics is to understand the composition of the Earth and the internal dynamics that determine it by various methods.

Boğaziçi University, Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute Geophysics Department is a research oriented department that aims to train new researchers in the field of geophysics.

The education in our department is at the level of masters of science and doctor of philosophy to develop further understand of the motion of the tectonic plates the behavior that results from the deformation of the crust, teaching all aspects of seismology, earthquake mechanism, instrumentation, multidisciplinary research on earthquake prediction are the main topics taught in the courses in our department. Training is also given on earthquake damage reduction, understanding the structure of Earth's crust by geophysical methods, engineering geophysics, geomagnetic, paleomagnetics, archeomagnetics, data processing.
